Olden times of Camel cigarette

Today, among enormous number of cigarettes brands, one of the most popular tobacco brands are Camel cigarettes that more then a century of presence on tobacco markets, Camel tobacco occupied only top places in sale.

Despite the fact that Camel trademark seems to own Turkish heritage it is American tobacco product that belongs to second leader of tobacco world, R.J Reynolds. Camel cigarette till today remain golden star in crown of R.J. Tobacco Company.

First dates about Camel smoking brand came from around one century ago, year 1913. This outstanding smoking product became first cigarette that was marketed in USA. It was designed in style of that time: soft pack and unfiltered version of cigarettes.

In period then Camel cigarettes emerged it was wide spread motto: “The Camels are coming” that means that it commenced a new era in taste of tobacco smoking products.

One of most widely distributed way of advertising for that time was usage of slogans that characterize exclusiveness of products. Same was for Camel brand. Most famous and flourishing slogans were: “I'd walk a mile for a Camel”, “For Digestion’s Sake - Smoke Camels”, “Experience is the best teacher in choosing a cigarette. Your T-zone will tell you why”, “More doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette”, “Slow down. Pleasure up”, “It’s your taste” and “Camels Soothe Your T-Zone”.

Among all slogans that were very famous at definite period of time, one of most highlighted was that of relaxing that offer smoking of Camel cigarette brand. Name of celebrated personalities as lion tamers (Mel Koontz), race car drives (Indianapolis 500 winner, Lou Meyer) and stunt women (Ione Reed) and stunt pilots (Frank Frakes) appeared in line with brand name of Camel, as single cigarettes that help to handle stressful situations. It also must be named legendary American journalist and famous media figure Edward R. Murrow that used to smoke four packs of Camel per day, in effect using a Camel cigarette as his trademark.

Maybe fact that Camel is an American tobacco product explained its phenomenal success on home markets only after four years of appearance in sales. Components of Camel cigarettes are of exclusive level: rich heritage, unique blend of flue-cured, burley and exotic Turkish tobacco, flavorful smoking taste assured first places to this brand till our days.

Of course, Camel cigarettes along with its excellent taste was helped to grow to status of one of most advertised brand with legendary Joe Camel which R.J. Reynolds introduced for promoting its premium cigarette brand.

In 1921, RJ Reynolds spends $8 million in advertising, mainly on Camel cigarettes. In this year also successes ad slogan: “I'd Walk a Mile for a Camel”.

After two years, Camel cigarettes occupied 45% of the U.S. cigarette market! It can be supposed that this motivated Philip Morris to begin to push Marlboro cigarettes as a woman's cigarette that is a “Mild as May”! Starting with that period Camel cigarettes brand was acclaimed as “stable representative” of the best smoking tobacco products.

Rank to which rose Camel tobacco is of respectful admiration for the reason that Camel brand name became symbol of independence and self-expression.
